How To Prevent Cavities In Front Teeth And In The Back

Cavities can be best described as tooth decay. Tooth decay can be influenced by how we eat and what toothpaste we use. You may inherit tooth decay from your family if you have a history of teeth disease or problems. This is quite common as many people inherit problems with their teeth that have been passed down generations. Here are a few tips that you can use to prevent cavities in front teeth, and also in your back teeth, from occurring over the course of your life.

Dry Mouth And Cavities

Dry mouths are more common in adults than those with dry saliva. Dry mouth is very common and can be caused by medications, illness, or radiation treatment. Dry mouth is also common in tobacco users. The nicotine in the tobacco leaves little to moisten the mouth.

Cavities And Tooth Loss

Cavities can lead to tooth loss if they are not treated. An abscess can also occur if the nerves are affected. An abscess can infect the root tip and is extremely serious. An abscess is dangerous and can lead to death if it is not treated. Cavities can be fatal, even though you might not know it.

Schedule Regular Checkups

Regular visits to your dentist will help you check for cavities. It is difficult to determine if you have a cavity without visiting your dentist. Cavities usually develop below your gums and are difficult to see. You will be able see a cavity if it exists within the tooth. It will also change the color of that area. You should immediately make an appointment to see your dentist if you notice any changes in the color of your tooth or a darkened area.

Watch Would You Eat

Cavities can be caused by what you eat. You are at greater risk of developing cavities if you consume a lot sugary foods or drink lots of soda. Sugary or starchy foods are more likely to be eaten by plaque bacteria, which can produce acids that can eat through your teeth. It can quickly eat through enamel and dentin, which is extremely harmful for teeth. If you do not take action, the acid will continue eating at your tooth until it is completely gone.

Protect Your Enamel

The enamel on your teeth will begin to fall away over time. However, the surface may appear fine. The surface of your tooth will begin to collapse once the acid has eaten away enough enamel below it. If you do not get it treated, the decay will continue to grow until the entire tooth is eaten. After that, the enamel will fall off and the root will become exposed.

Protect Your Gums

Cavities are more likely to develop around your gum line, in the pits of the chewing area, between your teeth or around the back teeth. Your dentist is the best place to find them. Your dentist can take x-rays to determine the extent of the problem and give you options. He will save your tooth if you see him on time.

If you do have cavities in your front teeth, and also your back teeth, it doesn’t have to be difficult to find a dentist to make an appointment or for emergencies. Give Dr. Sawyer an immediate call to schedule your first appointment.
